Stop Stopping

Want to Start Winning With Your Health and Fitness? Then Stop Stopping!

“All I do is WIN, WIN, WIN, no matter what, got FITNESS on my mind and I’m never giving up…”

That song brings me back to my athletic competition days. Anytime you’d win a game or your school’s team would win, this song would blast on the speakers, and everyone would put their hands in the air and pump them up and down. It was honestly magical. The only thing bad about it was if it was played prior to the game being over. If this song was played before the time ran out on whatever game you were playing, it was almost guaranteed you would lose.

Our Marketing Assistant Sara actually has a deep connection to that song at her alma mater Maryville College – Go Scots. She was telling me about how their band would ALWAYS play that song in the 3rd quarter of the football game or before halftime of the basketball games. She said all the athletes would stare at the band like WHAT ARE YOU DOING, this is putting terrible luck on the team playing!!!!

Anyways, all this to tell you, if you want to win win win with your health and fitness, you have to stop stopping.

Starting and stopping on the fitness journey has become a norm in the fitness world. I want to encourage you to break this norm because your life will benefit TONS more if you do!

I mean, once you have a kid, you are a parent for the rest of your life. Once you get married – hopefully you stay together – you are married for the rest of your life. Some days you may feel like a great parent or spouse, some you may feel like a terrible parent or spouse, and some you may feel in between. Regardless, you are still a parent or a spouse. You don’t just give up your title based on your feelings during a season.

The same goes for your body. When you are born, you have a body. If you are watching this, I am assuming you have a body. With that, you have a status with your health and fitness.

Whether you are aware of it or not, you are on a fitness journey. That journey could be going poorly, great, or staying still, but you are still on it.

Your trainer. Your gym. Your equipment. Your exercise plan. Your diet plan. Your food. These are just TOOLS on your fitness journey, but they are not your fitness journey. If you have to move cities and get a new gym or trainer, you aren’t stopping and starting your health and fitness journey over. You are just changing the tools you use to help you reach your goals.

Your health and fitness journey started the day you were born, and it will not end until the day you die.

Once you recognize this, you will see that you don’t have to “start again” or “get back on the wagon” with your journey. You may have to get back to a plan, but you aren’t completely starting over.

You can break free from the “all or none” mentality of starting and stopping. You can break free from that rut you have been stuck in for days, weeks, months, years, or decades.

Since you aren’t starting and stopping, you just have to do the best you can with what you have.

I was talking with a client last week that has seen AMAZING fat loss results. These results are better than any she has seen in her adult life. She was having great fat loss progress, then she had a busy month – child going to college, travel, a good busy month. Nonetheless, she was busy, and her weight stayed the same.

Of course, she was bummed she didn’t lose a number on the scale. Anyone would be because we always want the result to be faster. Patience is a virtue we have to learn.

Anyways, I gave her some perspective. I told her, “If this happened last year, would you have regressed or stayed the same if you had a busy month?” She told me she would have regressed. That’s the point. The goal isn’t to stay on the entire time, the goal is consistent execution.

You have to give what you have and do the best with what you are given. Some days you won’t have much to give, but if you continue to give it, the results will show themselves. If you only had 20% to give as a parent you wouldn’t give up and just not show up, so don’t do this with your health and fitness!

This builds character. Ride the waves of life. Take advantage of the good times – give your 100%, do a little extra, eat the right foods – and hold on through the bad times with all you have even if it means just maintaining where you are.

Life will strike you hard, it’s inevitable. You may be able to make a small amount of progress, but there will come a time your goal will be minimizing the progress you lose. It’s not pretty, but it’s the truth.

That’s what makes our program so different from any other program out there. It is designed for the everyday man and woman. Your fitness plan should serve you, not the other way around.
